As yoga teachers and students, we acknowledge that yoga, a 3000+ year-old philosophy and science, serves as a holistic approach to health - a mind-body “medicine” that supports the student’s physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well being.

Recent scientific studies of yoga and its therapeutic benefits have increased substantially. It is important and imperative that these benefits be brought to light. Yoga is currently classified as a non essential business, when it is scientifically proven to have life changing health benefits. Yoga is an essential service and we must acknowledge its importance for the prevention and treatment of disease.

It is our hope that you will sign the following petition and share it with others in the yoga community: students, teachers, doctors and scientists. We have complied some compelling research documents to peruse and share as well. In addition, please use the links below to contact your elected officials. Feel free to add your thoughts, personal stories and research.

Let’s acknowledge yoga as a whole health system that supports the entire individual and is essential, immune building and healing.

Now is the time for action! Please join River Yoga and the wellness community in supporting our mission to enact change to the classification of yoga and meditation practices from being grouped with gyms and fitness centers. Together we can help to share the age old practice of mental, physical and spiritual wellness through yoga!

WHO TO CALL (NYS) Or please contact your own elected officials!

The best way to initiate change is to contact your local and state elected officials. Express your concern and urge them to recognize that yoga is a scientifically proven way to increase your mental, physical and spiritual wellness.
